The GreenJOBS project 5th progress meeting was held on November the 20th, 2024, at the THGA headquarters in Herner Str. 45, Bochum, Germany, to discuss progress in developing innovative business plans for decommissioned underground coal mines. Two virtual plans were analysed: Virtual Power Plants and Green Hydrogen Plants. Also, the training and re-skilling of mining workers were analysed via the survey results to understand the occupational readiness and adaptability of employees, together with the progress on categorisation and key occupations.

In addition to the project partners, the meeting was attended by guests from the University Witten/Herdecke, who presented their work on citizen participation in sustainable transformation, and from BDBOHR e. V. who disserted on the right track of a socioeconomic future with a green touch.

On the second day of the meeting, participants made a technical excursion with the support of RAG to their headquarters in Leitwarte in Herne, where they visited the mine water control room and the training area for the mine rescue team. Later, they visited a construction area in Essen at the Zollverein Coal Mine, which is a UNESCO site, where the filling of the old shaft under monument protection conditions was developed.
