“The project aims to explore the use of the cave infrastructure for the use of renewable energy and circular economy, including reclamation and rehabilitation due to mining degraded areas using mining waste; potential for the installation of solar and wind; the use of cave water and infrastructure for the installation of heat pumps (geothermal energy); and pumped hydroelectric power plants, with emphasis on the development and use of the latest fluids and the production and use of green hydrogen” said the Managing Director of Coal Mine Velenje Dr Janez Rošer.
The Managing Director added that the project would produce business plans for virtual power plants and green hydrogen plants, including plans for the necessary retraining and restructuring models to provide new jobs.
